"3 Track Event"

SESSION A: “Pharmaceutical Engineering at Rutgers University and NJIT: A New Frontier for Academic Research and Education” - Rutgers University and New Jersey Institute of Technology have taken a number of initiatives recently to establish research and educational programs in pharmaceutical engineering. Researchers at both universities have conducted research projects in recent years, often in cooperation with local pharmaceutical companies, to study processes of significant interest to pharmaceutical companies. Highlights of some of these research activities will be presented. Other topics discussed in the talk will include establishing pharmaceutically related research centers and programs to educate the pharmaceutical engineering workforce of the future.
This talk represents a unique opportunity to learn more about the important collaboration between the academic community and pharmaceutical companies.
Speakers: Professor Fernando J. Muzzio - Rutgers University / Professor Piero M. Armenante - New Jersey Institute of Technology

SESSION B: “Disposable Manufacturing Equipment” - Cleaning validation and manufacturing of biological materials on a marketable scale requires a major capital investment for equipment. In multi-product facilities and even in single-product manufacturing equipment, cleanout is a time-consuming and increasingly expensive process. As a result, manufacturers have begun to market disposable manufacturing equipment for many of the process steps, as well as for solution preparation and storage. This seminar will discuss some of the equipment available to operating companies and the experience that a company has had with its use.
Speakers: Tom Hartnett – PSGUS (J&J) / Vijay Singh – Wave Biotech / Ahmad J. Shahidi - Lockwood Greene / Gerry Cerulli – IPS BioPharm

SESSION C: “Facility Design Strategies for Aseptic Manufacturing” - An introduction to the basic design fundamentals that need to be addressed when designing an aseptic manufacturing facility. This session will focus on current US and EU regulations, cGMP zoning and transitions, scope of manufacturing operations, manufacturing technology & capacities, isolation v traditional and finishes.
Speakers: Sam Halaby and Peter Hanson - Integrated Project Services (IPS)
